Manali, at road level
Manali sits at the northern end of the Kullu valley, where the Beas river slows and the deodar forests thicken. It is both a destination and a launchpad — towards Rohtang, the Atal Tunnel, Spiti and, for a few months each year, the Leh highway.
The drive in — whether via Mandi and the Aut tunnel or over the Jalori route from Shimla — is a full mountain day that rewards an experienced hill driver and a comfortable, well-powered vehicle.
